11/7/07 - MU Hockey Ranked No. 12 in ACHA Cental Region!!!

Welcome back! The Golden Eagles are off to a great start this season with a record of 9-3, earning them a number twelve ranking in the ACHA Men’s DII Central Division. The Golden Eagles started out the season with a pair of wins versus cross town rivals University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee , edging out the panthers 8-2 and 5-2. The first road trip of the year started out difficult for the Golden Eagles, falling 6-4 to McKendree University in a hard fought game. The Golden Eagles were not to be bested in game two of the series however, pulling out a 4-3 win in the third period. Northern Michigan University proved to be a challenge as well and Marquette split the series, losing 6-2 in game one and winning game two 4-1. The Golden Eagles then let their true colors show, winning the next five games, sweeping Western Illinois and St. Norbert’s and splitting the series with conference rival Bradley University.

The Golden Eagles have fought their way to the best opening record in the clubs recent history and the rest of the season looks just as bright. Rookie players Marty Wilkins and Nick Romans have earned spots on the teams power play units and have put their names on the score sheet consistently in the first twelve games of the season. Alex Ochowicz, Rob Maher and Rob Wolk have all been impressive as well, rounding out a solid veteran lineup.

The team’s toughest challenge yet comes this weekend when the Golden Eagles face Lake Forest College , a team that has also been hot right out of the gate. Playing only four games thus far Lake Forest has a 3-1 record. The Golden Eagles hope their experience and extra games will lead them to an 11-3 record by the end of the week.
